No classes being held in Leander ISD on Monday, January 11; other schools not open

LEANDER, Texas — With the unusual snowstorm that hit the Williamson County area on Sunday, residents are waking up to some melting snow, but icy conditions after temperatures dropped hit the freezing point overnight. Conditions for driving have school districts in the area cancelling or having late starts to the school day on Monday.

Leander Independent School District announced that it has canceled all virtual and in-person classes due to the weather conditions. School offices are also closed. The day will be made up at a later time, according to officials.

Leander ISD includes schools in Leander and Cedar Park.

booksIn a statement posted on the district website, officials said:

We are canceling all school instead of operating exclusively in virtual school because:

  • our teachers have been leading virtual learning from their classrooms,
  • elementary students may lack access to devices, and
  • a lack of clarity from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) regarding the use of virtual instruction time in this instance.

Tuesday Jan. 12 will be a B day as scheduled and we will have our scheduled early release day on Wednesday with the normal two-hour early release schedule.

Other schools closed for the day are:

  1. Austin ISD
  2. Georgetown ISD
  3. Hutto ISD
  4. Liberty Hill ISD
  5. Pflugerville ISD
  6. Round Rock ISD
  7. Taylor ISD
