GEORGETOWN, Texas — Volunteers and staff of the Georgetown Animal Shelter (GAS) will be on hand to accept donations at a drive-through “GivingTuesday” event. It is set for December 1 through December 5, and its purpose is to collect items needed for the animals housed at the shelter. The event will take place at the adoption trailer which will be parked next to the Georgetown Public Library at West Eighth Street and MLK Jr. Drive.
Social distancing and mask protocols will be in place due to Covid-19.
Items needed include:
- Dry cat & dog food
- Potty pads
- Timothy Hay
- Guinea pig, rabbit & hamster food
- New dog & cat toys
- Small blankets
- Leashes
- Pill pockets & treats
- Dish soap
- Kongs & peanut butter
Those who wish to donate but cannot attend may order online via a wish list the GAS has set up on Amazon.
Persons who want to adopt a pet are asked to make an appointment to view the animals prior to coming to the shelter. To make an appointment, call 512-930-3592 or send an email to animalsvc@georgetown.org

Year-end statistics as noted online by GAS indicates the shelter has achieved a No-Kill status with a save rate of 94 percent.
The shelter has a ongoing foster program for those who want to temporarily home a cat or dog that may be injured, needs extra care, has just delivered a litter of pups or kittens, and more.
Volunteers are always welcome to assist at GAS and are required to attend an orientation session before helping out. Ages 16 and older may help in a variety of ways:

- Dog walking
- Foster
- Grounds work
- Offsite adoption events
- Office help
