Kathryn Schumacher, BSW
Ambassador Family Specialist,
ARROW TREATMENT FOSTER CARE
1. What is your role in the organization?
I am a case manager to foster families who come through our trainings and become certified. I am able to go see the foster children and families, schedule appointments, find babysitters and basically help however I can.
2. How did you end up there?
I previously worked at the Department of Child Protective Services, and was a case manager there. I wanted to begin working for a smaller non profit agency, and Arrow Child and Family Ministries is the best there is!
3. What’s the most satisfying part of your job and the most challenging?
The most satisfying part is to see children being adopted. Our families are very giving, and it is so joyful to see them adopt. The most challenging part of my job is the dynamics of foster care. There are so many people involved, and that brings in a lot of dynamics. Each phone call can be a new set of circumstances, which can have everyone come together to benefit the children. All of us can grow from each challenge, and they make everyone better at what we are doing.
4. What’s your goal with Arrow Family Children Ministries?
My biggest goal is growth for everyone! I want all of our children and families to grow in their ability to care for one another, and I want to ensure that I can help out in any way possible.
5. What’s something that the average person is likely unaware of regarding foster care in Central Texas?
The foster care system is very complex in Texas. There are many children in care who need homes, and most of these children can go through many placements before finding their forever family. You could provide a home for them!
