WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — From now through January 6, 2021, the public is asked to become foster homes for many of the animals housed at the Williamson County Animal Shelter (WCAS). “Home for the Holidays” is its annual drive designed to save the lives of cats and dogs who have been abandoned or found lost. It is hoped that people will also come forward to adopt any of the pets on a permanent basis. Adoption fees have been reduced for the weekend of December 4 and 5 to just $2.

Rules of the program are that dogs and cats going home with a family should be age one year or older, microchipped, vaccinated and spayed or neutered before they can be housed with families.

Girl with dogPotential fosters are asked to complete an online application, present a valid photo ID, and be older than 18 years of age. Photos of all animals at WCAS can be viewed online. Those taking home animals for over the holidays are asked to treat and care for the animal as if it were their own.

The animal shelter requires an advance appointment now during times of COVID-19, and asks that interested persons send an email to adoption@wilco.org to choose a time to view the animals in person. There are two facilities at 1855 SE Inner Loop and the Adoption Center is the building with the purple and yellow logo on the outside of it.

This year, WCAS celebrated five years of being a No-Kill facility, with a 94 percent save rate as of November.

Those who wish to donate items to the shelter can shop from home, using the WCAS Wish List posted on Amazon.com.
