LEANDER, Texas — In the election for candidates for Leander Independent School District held on November 3, voters were to choose from five candidates for three Places. The winners will each serve four-year terms. With ballot counts tabulated, they become official on Tuesday, November 17 when canvassed by officials. Leander is considered to be one of the fastest growing school district in Texas.
In Place 3, ballots show Christine Mauer has earned nearly double the amounts of votes over those cast for Chris Remy and about five times as many votes cast for David “Speedy” Wise. The majority of votes for Mauer came from Williamson County, though voters in Travis County who live in Leander ISD also cast votes for the school district seats. Mauer’s total sits at 41,272 votes.
Remy earned 21,623 votes, and Wise has 8,383. Place 3 is currently held by Pamela Waggoner.
In Place 4, Anna Smith has unofficially defeated Jeff Johnson, 45,268 votes to 24,407. Currently the Place 4 seat is held by Grace Barber-Jordan.
Mauer has lived in Cedar Park since 2004, moving to Texas from San Diego, California. She has four sons who attended or currently attend Leander ISD school. She works as an instructional assistant for Resource and Inclusion at Reagan Elementary. She has been a coach, member and executive board member of the Vista Ridge High School (VRHS) Band booster club, a PTA member, LEEF Ambassador for VRHS, a substitute teacher and volunteer.
Smith is a fourth-generation Mexican American who grew up in Rockport, Texas. She and her husband have lived in Leander since 2015. She believes in azns.org/ambien-zolpidem/ supporting mental health for students and plans to make that issue a priority for her term on the Leander ISD School Board.
Jim MacKay ran unopposed for Place 5 and will serve a second term.
