ROUND ROCK, Texas — Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) has announced that all students who are currently in eighth grade may take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on campus on Wednesday, January 27.
Those eighth-graders who choose not to take the test will participate in asynchronous learning on that day. The time to complete and submit the day’s work for those students not participating is at 11:59 p.m. on January 27.
According to RRISD, this first round of college readiness testing gives younger students a benchmark by which to measure their levels of knowledge of various subjects and identify area where they may need to focus their efforts for improvement. “Personalized practice is available through Khan Academy based on PSAT 8/9 performance patterns. The district uses the PSAT 8/9 data to improve curriculum, to inform teaching and learning practices, and to encourage students showing potential to enroll in advanced coursework matching their strengths as they plan for high school,” according to a RRISD news release.
Students participating in the testing will be provided breakfast and lunch. All others not taking the test can still get curbside meals. School buses will provide transportation to the students’ schools, if they are eligible to ride a bus route, which can be found online.
Parents who have questions about the PSAT testing day are advised to contact their eighth-grade student’s campus for more information.
