Some cities offering assistance to pay utilities in times of COVID-19

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — It is a difficult time to be out of a job as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and more so during the holiday season when purchasing gifts for loved one is the norm. Rent, food, utilities must come before gifts in most cases. However, a number of cities in the region have short-term programs in place for those needing assistance to pay their utility bills.

Round Rock:  While disconnects for non-payment of utilities have resumed,  according to information posted on the City of Round Rock website, individuals who need financial assistance may apply through the Round Rock Area Serving Center. The agency is working to process applications before December 30. The application deadline for funds is December 11 by 4 p.m. Rental assistance for January is not available.

Georgetown:  Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties is handling applications from those who need financial help to pay utility bills. A driver’s license, government-issued ID card or U.S. passport is required, as is legal U.S. citizenship. A 30-day income history for household members ages 18 and older must be provided. Disabled persons are to provide a Self-Declaration of Disability form if they do not receive financial benefits. A current utility bill with balance due also must be provided.

Cedar Park:  Residents of Cedar Park may request to be on a payment plan if experiencing financial hardship and cannot pay utility bills. An online form is available, or contact the City at 512-401-5300.

Hutto: Customers who have difficulty in paying their utility bills in the city of Hutto are advised to contact 1-888-267-6808 to make arrangements for additional time to pay any past due amounts during times of COVID-19.
