ROUND ROCK, Texas — On Tuesday, the Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) notified staff, students and parents that the campus of Stony Point High School is temporarily being closed to in-person instruction due to new cases of coronavirus infections. The closure is effective immediately. Students will be asked to continue learning remotely through Monday, November 30, according to an official statement.
With the Thanksgiving holiday and no classes between November 23 through November 27, students to not have to login remotely for instruction on those days. Officials said all extracurricular activities are also suspended until December 1.
Recommendations to close the campus are made in connection with Williamson County and Cities Health District and Austin Public Health. During the closure, officials planned to have thorough sanitization and deep cleaning done in the Stony Point facility. It is located at 1801 Tiger Trail.
The Stony Point website yet shows there is to be a basketball game on Tuesday, November 17, and football games this week. A call to the high school to determine if those events are called off was answered by a recorded message that did not specifically address the status of those events.
The latest data from WCCHD confirms there are approximately 600 confirmed and 800 probable cases of COVID-19 that were reported in Williamson County between July and October. The county is in the “orange” level, according to the WCCHD rating chart.
While curbside meal distribution for free breakfast and lunches will continue, meals are not available during the scheduled break during the Thanksgiving holiday. Meals may be picked up between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Parents are asked to provide proof of students’ school enrollment, via a letter or email from the school, a report card, attendance records, birth certificate or student identification cards.
