ROUND ROCK, Texas — Special Education teachers from throughout Central Texas will combine forces to host a conference for families with students who have disabilities. “Destination…Life” Regional Transition Fair and Conference is a virtual event set for Saturday, March 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Families can listen online to the conference in English and Spanish. For those who need instruction how to use the Zoom platform, a 9 a.m. session will teach participants how it all works.
The purpose of the conference is to provide information to families and gain access to experts on how to help their children with disabilities transition from high school to adulthood. Teachers from Austin, Eanes, Georgetown, Hutto, Lake Travis, Leander, Pflugerville, and Round Rock Independent School Districts and the East Williamson County Cooperative (Coupland, Granger, Taylor, and Thrall Independent School Districts) will be participating.
Parents will learn about:
– community resources to support the transition from high school
– colleges and training programs
– employment services
– options for independent living
– guardianship and alternatives
– how to apply for certain benefits at age 18
Service providers from:
– state, local and county agencies
– group homes
– disability-related nonprofit and for-profit companies
– financial/legal planners
– colleges and job training programs
