Democrat Mike Gleason defeats Wilco Sheriff Robert Chody

New Williamson County Sheriff Mike Gleason

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — Races that were decided locally on Tuesday night include an upset in the race for Williamson County Sheriff. Democrat Mike Gleason has defeated incumbent Sheriff Robert Chody, earning 56.2 percent to 43.8 percent of the vote with 97 percent of the precincts reporting their votes. This was perhaps not unexpected, due to a recent indictment and arrest of Chody on a felony charge of tampering with evidence related to the death of Javier Ambler. There had been previous calls for Chody to resign, which he did not do. Ambler’s death happened in March 2019 after a chase which made its way into north Austin during the night.
