HUTTO, Texas — Hutto Mayor Doug Gaul resigned from the position in November, and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Snyder has announced he will run for the position in the special election set for March 2021. Snyder is currently the representative in Place 3 on City Council with his term expiring in May 2022. He announced his plans to seek the mayoral role on a post on his Place 3 Facebook page.
Hutto has had ongoing issues in regard to its former city manager, Odis Jones. On December 4, 2020, the City of Hutto sent a letter to attorney Ted Smith in Austin in regard to allegedly unauthorized funds paid to Jones in the amount of $412,000. The letters states “the payment did not comply with Hutto City Charter Section 8.10. Overspending of Appropriations Prohited. This was also a requirement for lawful payment to your client. Moreover, even if the agreement had been validly adopted and implement, which it was not, Mr. Jones materially breached its ters by, without limitation, disparaging the City of Hutto.”
Hutto hired a replacement for Jones in September 2020. Warren Hutmacher, whose experience in city government is in the Atlanta, Georgia region for more than 20 years.
In November 2019, Snyder was cleared of charges that alleged he interfered with day-t0-day operations, contracts and and daily affairs for the city related to the Star Ranch development.
