WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — An investigative news report by KXAN TV which aired on January 14 reveals that Jason Nassour, the Williamson County attorney indicted in the criminal investigation into the death of Javier Ambler, has been sworn in as second in command at the Wilco Attorney’s Office run by Dee Hobbs.

Ambler died in March 2019 when former Sheriff Robert Chody held the office. Chody lost the election and the current Williamson County Sheriff is Mike Gleason. The death was controversial due to videos that recorded the arrest incident wherein Ambler is heard telling Williamson County deputies J.J. Johnson and Zachary Camden he couldn’t breathe as the two tried to handcuff Ambler after a 22-minute chase.

Nassour and Chody were each indicted on one count of evidence tampering, as the video was allegedly destroyed. The video was captured by a reality television show crew, with the intent for later airing on “Live PD.”

The KXAN story says a reply from Hobb’s office states, “Jason Nassour is an entry-level prosecutor position with the County Attorney’s Office with a salary of $67,657.46 and performs the duty of General Counsel.” Hobbs’ office wrote to KXAN in an email on January 14.

Records show that last August, Williamson County Commissioners voted to eliminate Nassour’s position, along with salary and benefits, with the money moved over to a new attorney job in the Commissioners’ Court, according to the story. Though the funds were cut as of October 1, Hobbs kept Nassour on staff as his general counsel, the KXAN story states.
