ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced in a news release the City of Round Rock has received the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the City’s most recent comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR)
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents “a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” according to the GFOA.
The report gives and analysis and overview of the revenue and expenditures made by the city for the previous fiscal year. It illustrates the Finance Department’s commitment to accountability and stewardship with the use of public funds. State laws and the city charter require audited financial statements each year. This award shows that city staff has met a higher standard in reporting its financial compliance, condition and statistical information.
GFOA is accepting applications for the 2021 Awards for Excellence program. It is free to apply and all winners receive complimentary registration to a GFOA conference plus the opportunity to provide a case study example for any interested governments to learn from in the future, according to the GFOA website.
GFOA Awards for Excellence in Government Finance “stress practical, documented work that offers leadership to the profession and promotes improved public finance.” Membership in GFOA is not required to apply to receive an award. Applications for 2021 are due by March 4.
GFOA will offer an encore presentation on January 14, 2021, of its 25th Annual Governmental GAAP Update as an e-learning course. It is from noon to 4 p.m. ET.
