ROUND ROCK, Texas — According to a news release posted on the Round Rock Independent School District website, Westwood High School ranks in the Top 100 high school in Texas and in the top 1,000 in the country for the fifth time.
The ranking is based on information from U.S. News and Word Reports’ Best High Schools list. More than 24,000 schools were considered with 18,000 ranked based on six factors of performance on state assessment. Preparing students for college also figures in the ranking scores.
Ranking factors are:
- College Readiness 30%
- Math and Reading Proficiency 20%
- Math and Reading Performance 20%
- Underserved and Student Performance 10%
- College Curriculum Breadth 10%
- Graduation Rate 10%
The top high school in the nation is listed as Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia.
In Austin, the #5 ranking in Texas went to Liberal Arts and Science Academy, with Richards School for Young Women Leaders taking the #18 spot in Texas. Westwood placed #63 with Round Rock High School listed as #133 in the US News and World Report rankings for Texas.
